Pros
  • 18 cu. ft. holds a large bulk-buy haul
  • Runs in garage temperatures, not just climate-controlled rooms
  • Converts between freezer and refrigerator
  • Energy Star rated for lower running cost
  • Stainless steel finish looks better than a white box
Cons
  • 32.8 in wide and 65 in tall, so measure the opening first
  • Upright freezers use more energy than chest freezers of the same size
  • Frost-free models dry out unwrapped food faster
  • Only one store lists a new price, so little room to comparison shop

Questions and answers

Is $779 a good price for this freezer?
It is the only new price listed, $779 at Home Depot as of November 5, 2026. With one seller there is no lower new price to compare against, so check it against typical upright freezer prices in this size class before buying.
Can it really go in an unheated garage?
Yes. Frigidaire rates this model garage ready, so it is built to keep freezing in ambient temperatures well below what a standard freezer handles. Very hot garages still shorten any freezer's life.
How does the convertible mode work?
You switch the thermostat between freezer and refrigerator settings, and the interior holds fridge temperatures instead of freezing. It is a manual change, not something you do daily.
Does it need to be defrosted?
It is a frost-free upright, so you should not need to chip ice. The trade-off is that moving air dries out food that is not wrapped well.
Will it fit through a standard door?
It is 32.8 in wide, 30.5 in deep and 65 in tall. Check doorways and turns on the path in, not just the final spot, and leave clearance for the door swing.
What size family is 18 cu. ft. for?
It suits a family of four to six buying meat in bulk, or a household adding a second freezer. A couple storing occasional frozen meals will find it larger than needed.
Where is the Frigidaire 18 Cu. Ft. Garage Ready Convertible Upright Freezer cheapest?
At Home Depot, for $779.00, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Frigidaire 18 Cu. Ft. Garage Ready Convertible Upright Freezer?
Rated 4.6 out of 5 from 41 ratings.
Where can I buy the Frigidaire 18 Cu. Ft. Garage Ready Convertible Upright Freezer?
2 stores we checked sell it, including Home Depot, Appliance Liquidators.
