What film does the Instax SQ40 use?

It uses Instax Square film, which produces 62 x 62 mm prints. Mini and Wide film will not fit.

Is the SQ40 worth it over an Instax Mini?

If you want bigger square prints, yes; square film costs more per shot. If you want the cheapest film and a smaller body, a Mini model is the better pick.

Does it have a self-timer or tripod mount?

No. The SQ40 has no self-timer and no tripod socket, so it is a handheld point-and-shoot.

How close can it focus?

Close-up mode covers roughly 30 to 50 cm, and the selfie mirror helps frame shots at that distance.
