- Do I need a subscription to use it?
- Yes. Messaging, tracking and SOS require an active inReach plan, sold monthly or annually. The device works as a basic GPS without one, but the satellite features do not.
- How is the Mini 2 different from the original inReach Mini?
- The Mini 2 adds TracBack routing, a slightly larger screen, USB-C charging and longer battery life. Messaging and SOS work the same way.
- How long does the battery last?
- Garmin rates up to 14 days in 10-minute tracking mode and up to 30 days with 30-minute tracking. Heavy messaging and SOS use shorten that.
- What is in the box?
- This bundle includes the flame red Mini 2, a USB cable, two USB charging adapters, a carabiner and a cleaning cloth.
- Does it work worldwide?
- Yes. It uses the Iridium satellite network, which covers the globe including polar regions, so it works on remote trips abroad.
- Is it worth the price?
- If you go off-grid where phones fail, the SOS and messaging can be worth it. At $356.99 at Walmart as of November 7, 2026 it is near its recent high, so waiting for a dip is reasonable.
