Our take on the Gateway 15.6" FHD IPS Windows 11S Laptop Intel 4GB RAM 128GB SSD

The Gateway 15.6" FHD laptop is a budget Windows machine built around a quad-core Intel processor, 4GB of LPDDR5 memory and a 128GB eMMC drive. Its 1920 x 1080 IPS screen at 300 nits and a 180-degree hinge are unusual at this price, and the 2MP webcam has a privacy shutter. At 3.31 lb with a claimed 10-hour battery, it is meant for light everyday work rather than heavy multitasking. No current price was supplied, so check the latest best price against its recent range before buying.

Questions and answers

Is this laptop good for schoolwork?
Yes for essays, web research and video calls. It will struggle with heavy multitasking or large creative apps because of the 4GB of RAM and eMMC storage.
Can I upgrade the RAM or storage?
Memory is soldered LPDDR5, so it cannot be upgraded. The 128GB eMMC drive is also not a standard user-replaceable part on most Gateway models.
Can I leave Windows 11S mode?
Yes. You can switch to full Windows 11 for free, which lets you install apps from outside the Microsoft Store, but the 4GB RAM still limits what runs well.
How long does the battery last?
Gateway claims up to 10 hours. Expect closer to 6 to 8 hours of mixed browsing and video in real use.
What ports does it have?
USB ports, HDMI and a headphone/mic combo jack. No USB-C or SD card slot is listed, so check before buying for accessories that need them.
When is it cheapest?
Budget Gateway laptops usually drop during back-to-school and Black Friday sales. Check the price history before buying so you know whether the current price is near its low.
What do buyers say about the Gateway 15.6" FHD IPS Windows 11S Laptop Intel 4GB RAM 128GB SSD?
