Our take on the GE 23.0 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator

A 23 cu. ft. side-by-side refrigerator in stainless steel with a built-in ice maker and Energy Star rating. Its 32.7-inch width is narrower than most side-by-sides, which helps in tight kitchens, but the 34.7-inch depth means it sticks out past standard counters. At $1,883 at AJ Madison as of November 5, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent price range across the three stores that carry it new.

Best forKitchens with a narrow fridge openingHouseholds that want an in-door ice and water dispenserBuyers who want a full-size fridge without a premium priceRentals and second homes needing a basic stainless side-by-side
Pros
  • Narrow 32.7-inch width fits openings that most side-by-sides can't
  • 23 cu. ft. is generous capacity for the footprint
  • Energy Star rated, so it runs more efficiently than older units
  • Factory ice maker included, no add-on cost
  • Stainless steel finish matches most appliance suites
Cons
  • 34.7-inch depth is not counter-depth, so it protrudes
  • Side-by-side freezer compartments are narrow for wide items like pizza boxes
  • Ice makers and water lines are a common source of service calls on side-by-sides
  • Basic interior shelving and lighting compared with newer French-door models

Questions and answers

Is $1,883 a good price for this GE refrigerator?
It is at the low end of its recent range, and it is the best new price among the three stores that carry it as of November 5, 2026. That makes it a fair buy if the size fits your kitchen.
Will it fit a 33-inch opening?
At 32.7 inches wide, it should fit a 33-inch opening with a little clearance. Measure your opening and door swing before ordering, since delivery crews need room to move it in.
Is it counter-depth?
No. It is 34.7 inches deep, so it will stand out past standard 24-inch counters. Check that doors and drawers still open in your layout.
Does it come with an ice maker?
Yes, an ice maker is included. You will need a water line plumbed to the fridge for it to work.
How does it compare with a French-door fridge?
It is narrower and usually cheaper, but the side-by-side freezer is tighter for wide items. A French-door model gives more usable freezer width if your space allows.
When is it cheapest?
Appliance prices tend to dip around major holiday sales and when new models replace old ones. Track the price history here and buy when it drops below the recent range.
