Our take on the General Altimax 365AW Tire

The General Altimax 365AW is an all-weather grand touring tire for passenger cars and crossovers, sold in the 225/55R17 95H size. It carries the three-peak mountain snowflake rating, so it is legal for severe snow without being a dedicated winter tire, and General rates it for wet grip, cut-and-tear resistance and noise comfort over the tread life. The best new price is $128.99 at eBay as of November 6, 2026, with three stores listing it new.

Pros
  • Three-peak mountain snowflake rated for severe snow
  • All-weather design covers dry, wet and deep snow
  • H speed rating (130 mph) and 95 load index suit most mid-size cars and crossovers
  • Grand touring construction tuned for ride comfort and low noise
  • Cut and tear resistance built into the tread compound
Cons
  • Not a substitute for a dedicated winter tire on ice
  • Softer all-weather compound can wear faster than a pure all-season
  • Handling is tuned for comfort, not sporty driving
  • Only one size and speed rating shown here, so fitment is limited

Questions and answers

Is the General Altimax 365AW a true winter tire?
No. It is an all-weather tire with the three-peak mountain snowflake rating, so it meets severe snow standards but is not a dedicated winter tire. It handles snow well; on hard ice a winter tire still grips better.
What does 225/55R17 95H mean?
It is a 225 mm wide tire with a 55 aspect ratio on a 17-inch wheel, carrying 95 load index (1,521 lbs per tire) and an H speed rating up to 130 mph. Confirm your vehicle's placard before buying.
Can I run it year-round?
Yes. It is designed as a single set for all four seasons, which is the point of an all-weather tire. Rotate it regularly and check pressures to get even wear.
How does it compare with a dedicated winter tire?
It wins on convenience and dry-road quietness, and it is close in snow. A winter tire is still the better choice if you regularly drive on ice or in deep, unplowed snow.
Is $128.99 a good price?
That is the best new price among three stores as of November 6, 2026, at eBay. Compare against the other listings and factor in mounting and balancing, which usually add $15 to $25 per tire.
How many tires do I need to buy?
Replace all four at once on an AWD or 4WD vehicle to keep the drivetrain and handling balanced. On a two-wheel-drive car, at least fit them in pairs on the same axle.
Where is the General Altimax 365AW Tire cheapest?
At eBay, for $128.99, 26% under what the other stores charge, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the General Altimax 365AW Tire?
Rated 4.5 out of 5 from 309 ratings.
Where can I buy the General Altimax 365AW Tire?
5 stores we checked sell it, including eBay, TireMart.com, Priority Tire, Giga Tires, PerfectionWheels.
