Is the Lockdown Drive worth it over a plain utility knife?

Only if you want the #11 blade format and the included multitool. A standard box cutter costs less and takes sturdier blades. The Lockdown Drive makes more sense for hobby and detail work.

Does it take standard #11 hobby blades?

Yes. It is built around replaceable #11 utility blades, the same style used in craft knives. Serrated #11 blades are less widely stocked than plain ones, so buy spares when you order.

Can I open it with one hand?

No. Gerber lists it as not one-handed opening, so you need two hands to unfold it. That is a real drawback if you cut often while holding something in the other hand.

How big and heavy is it?

It measures 3.87 inches folded and weighs 4.5 ounces. The aluminum handle keeps it light for a steel-bladed tool, but it is thicker than a slim traditional folder.

What comes in the box?

The knife and a small multitool. Check the listing for whether spare blades are included, since it ships with one blade installed.

Utility knives like this tend to dip during fall hunting and outdoor sales and around the holidays. Watch the price history rather than buying at first sight.

Our take on the Gerber Lockdown Drive

The Gerber Lockdown Drive is a folding utility knife that runs standard #11 hobby blades instead of a conventional knife edge, so you swap blades rather than sharpen. It pairs a 2.5-inch serrated utility blade with a small multitool, carries on a pocket clip, and uses a frame lock. The aluminum handle keeps it at 4.5 ounces and 3.87 inches folded. It is a niche tool for light cutting and prying tasks, not a replacement for a regular pocket knife.
