Our take on the Glarry Electric Bass Guitar Full Size 4 String Rosewood Basswood Fire Style

The Glarry Fire Style is a full-size 4-string electric bass with a solid basswood body, a rosewood fretboard and 20 frets, styled after the offset 'Firebird' shape. It is a budget instrument aimed at beginners and players who want a second bass for little money. Build is basic: basswood body, passive electronics and a fixed bridge. It competes on price, not on hardware or finish quality.

Best forFirst-time bass players on a tight budgetTeenagers and students learning at homePlayers wanting a cheap backup or practice bassAnyone drawn to the offset Firebird-style body
Pros
  • Low price for a full-size 4-string bass
  • Comfortable offset body shape with good upper-fret access
  • Standard 34-inch scale, so it feels like a normal bass
  • Light basswood body is easy to hold standing or seated
  • Simple passive electronics are easy to live with
Cons
  • Setup out of the box is often poor: action, intonation and fret ends
  • Pickups and hardware are basic and can sound thin or noisy
  • Basswood dents easily and the finish is thin
  • No gig bag, stand or cable included
  • Resale value is very low

Questions and answers

Is the Glarry Fire Style bass good for a beginner?
Yes, if you budget for a setup. The scale length and string spacing are standard, so it teaches proper technique. Have a shop adjust the action and intonation, or it may be hard to play.
What is included in the box?
The bass itself, usually with a truss rod wrench. Expect no gig bag, cable, strap or stand, so add those to the cost.
Is it a full-size bass?
Yes. It has a 34-inch scale and a full-size body, so it is not a short-scale instrument for small hands.
How many frets and strings does it have?
Four strings and 20 frets, which covers most beginner and rock, punk and metal material.
Should I upgrade the pickups?
Only after a setup. A setup and fresh strings improve it most; pickup swaps cost as much as the bass and are rarely worth it on this model.
When is the best time to buy it?
