Is 100,000 BTU enough for my house?

It suits medium to large homes, roughly 2,000 to 3,000 square feet in a moderate climate. Have a contractor run a load calculation on your home before buying, since oversized or undersized units both cost you.

Yes. It is above the 80% minimum furnaces and Energy Star certified, though condensing models at 95% or higher use less gas. The gap shows up as a few percent on your winter heating bill.

What does single stage mean?

The burner runs at full output or shuts off, with no lower heating step. That keeps the price down but gives wider temperature swings than a two-stage or modulating furnace.

Does it work in California?

Yes. It complies with California's 40 ng/J low-NOx emissions standard, which many other furnaces do not.

What do I need to install it?

A 20-amp circuit, low-voltage thermostat wiring, gas piping and venting sized for a 92% furnace. Plan on a licensed HVAC contractor for installation and permits.

When is the price lowest?

Furnace prices tend to dip in spring and early fall, before heating season demand. The current best is $1,690 at Alpine Home Air Products as of November 7, 2026.
