Our take on the Gouun Velvet Upholstered Bed Frame with Multi-Compartment Storage Headboard

The Gouun is a queen-size platform bed with a velvet-upholstered frame and a headboard that includes multiple storage compartments. It ships with slats, so a box spring is not required. The storage headboard is the main draw: it puts books, glasses and small items within reach without a nightstand. It is a soft, fabric-covered piece, so it suits bedrooms styled around texture rather than metal or wood.

Best forShoppers who want storage without a separate nightstandBedrooms with a soft, upholstered lookRenters and guest rooms needing a simple platform bedCouples who want a padded headboard for reading in bed
Pros
  • Multi-compartment headboard keeps small items within reach
  • Velvet upholstery gives a soft, warm look
  • Slats included, so no box spring needed
  • Queen size fits standard mattresses
  • Padded headboard is comfortable for sitting up in bed
Cons
  • Velvet shows lint, pet hair and marks more than woven fabric
  • Headboard compartments add depth, so the bed needs extra wall clearance
  • Fabric upholstery is harder to clean than wood or metal
  • Storage cubbies are shallow and hold only small items
  • No under-bed drawers mentioned

Questions and answers

Do I need a box spring with this bed?
No. The frame includes slats, so a queen mattress can sit directly on them. A box spring would only raise the mattress height.
How much wall clearance does the storage headboard need?
The compartments add depth behind the mattress, so plan for more space than a flat headboard. Measure your room before ordering if the bed sits close to a wall or door.
Is the velvet easy to clean?
Velvet needs gentle care. Vacuum it with a soft brush attachment and blot spills quickly. It is not as wipeable as leather or wood.
What size mattress fits?
It is a queen frame, so use a standard queen mattress, about 60 by 80 inches.
Is it worth it over a plain platform bed?
If you want storage within arm's reach and a padded headboard, the compartments justify it. If you need large storage, under-bed drawers hold more.
