Questions and answers

Is the Great Northern Ice Cub worth it?
If you make shaved ice often for groups, the speed and 160-ounce container justify the price. For occasional single servings, a smaller countertop shaver costs less.
Does it work with regular ice cubes?
No. It is designed for block ice, so you need to freeze blocks in a mold or bucket first. Cube ice does not shave well in this machine.
How fast does it shave ice?
Up to 360 lbs per hour, or about 6 lbs per minute, with a 1/3 HP motor. That is enough for a busy party or a small stand.
Can I change how coarse the ice is?
Yes. The texture is adjustable, so you can go from coarse snow-cone ice to fine, fluffy shaved ice.
What comes in the box?
The machine and its 160-ounce container. Ice block molds are usually sold separately, so check before buying if you need one.
When is it cheapest?
The best new price is $329.99 at Wayfair as of November 4, 2026. Watch for seasonal discounts in summer, when demand for shaved ice machines peaks.
