Is a GPS fence as reliable as an in-ground wire fence?

No. GPS position can drift by several yards near cover, so the boundary is approximate. In-ground wire gives a fixed, sharper line but costs far more to install.

How long does the battery last per charge?

Expect roughly a day of use per charge, less with heavy correction activity. Charge it overnight and keep a spare collar battery for long days out.

Will it work for a small dog?

Yes. The collar adjusts down to an 8-inch neck, which suits most small breeds. Check the receiver's weight against your dog's size before relying on it.

Does it need a subscription?

No. The boundary is set on the collar itself, so there is no monthly GPS plan. You only pay for the unit and replacement batteries.

What comes in the box?

Typically the GPS collar, charging cable, boundary flags and a training guide. Confirm the contents with the store before ordering.

When is the best time to buy?

The only new price listed is $61.74 at Chewy.com as of November 3, 2026. Watch for seasonal pet-gear sales, since a single listing gives no history to time a drop.

Our take on the GroovyPets GPS Wireless Fence Containment System

The GroovyPets GPS Wireless Fence is a containment and training collar that uses GPS rather than buried wire to set a boundary. It fits necks from 8 to 23 inches with a 3/4-inch buckle collar, so it covers small dogs through large ones. The collar is rechargeable, since the battery is built in. At $61.74 at Chewy.com as of November 3, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare against.
