Our take on the Hape White Fridge Freezer

The Hape White Fridge Freezer is a wooden play kitchen appliance for children 3 and up, styled as a cabinet refrigerator with a top-mounted freezer. Its standout feature is a built-in ice dispenser that drops wooden ice cubes, and it has ample interior storage for play food and dishes. It stands 29.1 inches tall, 14.1 inches wide and 11.6 inches deep, so it sits at real-kitchen height for a preschooler. It is a play toy, not an appliance, and is priced as a premium wooden piece rather than a plastic one.

Questions and answers

Is the Hape White Fridge Freezer worth it?
If you want a wooden play fridge that matches a Hape or similar play kitchen, the 4.6-out-of-5 rating from 85 ratings suggests most owners are satisfied. Cheaper plastic fridges cost less but rarely have a working ice dispenser.
How big is it and will it fit a play kitchen?
It measures 14.1 inches wide, 11.6 inches deep and 29.1 inches tall. Check your play kitchen's height and corner space before buying, since it is a full cabinet-style piece.
Does it need batteries?
No. The ice dispenser is mechanical and drops the included wooden cubes, so there are no lights or sounds and no batteries to replace.
What age is it for?
Hape rates it for ages 3 and up. The wooden ice cubes are small enough to be a choking concern for children under 3.
What comes in the box?
The fridge parts, assembly hardware and the wooden ice cubes. Assembly is required, so plan for some build time.
When is it cheapest?
Wooden Hape toys tend to drop around back-to-school and holiday sales. Watch the price history here rather than buying at full price if you are not in a hurry.
