Our take on the Harman Kardon Go + Play Portable Bluetooth Speaker

The Harman Kardon Go + Play is a portable Bluetooth speaker with a 2-channel setup and 100 W of amplification, tuned for room-filling sound rather than pocket carry. It streams wirelessly, pairs with up to three devices at once, and doubles as a speakerphone with noise and echo cancelling. A built-in rechargeable battery runs up to 8 hours and can charge a phone over USB. It is a larger, stationary-around-the-house speaker, not a backpack companion.

Questions and answers

Is the Go + Play worth it?
If you want loud, bass-heavy sound in one room or on a patio and rarely carry it far, yes. If you need a pocket speaker or all-day battery, look elsewhere.
How does it compare with the smaller Harman Kardon Onyx or Go + Play Mini?
The full-size Go + Play is louder and deeper, with 100 W and a larger cabinet. The smaller models trade volume and bass for easier carrying and longer battery life.
How long does the battery last?
Up to 8 hours per charge, less at high volume or when charging a phone over USB. It recharges with the included power adaptor.
Can I connect more than one phone?
Yes. It holds up to three paired smart devices and lets them take turns playing. Only one streams at a time.
What's in the box?
The speaker, a power adaptor, a quick start guide, a warranty card and a safety sheet. No USB charging cable for your phone is included.
When is it cheapest?
Harman Kardon speakers typically drop during Black Friday, back-to-school and end-of-year sales. Check the price history before buying outside those windows.
