Our take on the HAVA R09 Compact Countertop Dishwasher

The HAVA R09 is a compact countertop dishwasher with a 3-place-setting capacity, 7 wash cycles and a 950 W heater. It suits small kitchens, apartments and dorms where a full-size unit won't fit. At 60 dB it is about as loud as a normal conversation, so it is not silent. No current price was supplied, so check the latest best price against its recent range before buying.

Best forApartment and dorm kitchens with no built-in dishwasherSingles and couples washing a few dishes a dayRenters who want a portable unit that hooks to the faucetSmall households that hand-wash because a full-size unit won't fit
Pros
  • Fits on a countertop and needs no cabinet cutout
  • 7 wash cycles cover quick rinses and heavier pots
  • 3 place settings handle a day's dishes for one or two people
  • 950 W heater warms water for a real wash, not just a rinse
  • Strong owner rating of 4.8 from 555 ratings
Cons
  • 3 place settings is small for families or dinner parties
  • 60 dB is audible in an open kitchen or studio
  • Takes up counter space that small kitchens lack
  • Needs a faucet adapter connection, so the sink is tied up during a cycle
  • Plastic tub and compact build won't match a full-size stainless unit

Questions and answers

Is the HAVA R09 worth it?
For one or two people without a built-in dishwasher, yes. It cleans daily dishes and saves hand-washing time. Families with big loads will outgrow 3 place settings fast.
How many dishes does it hold?
About 3 place settings: plates, bowls, mugs and cutlery for one or two people. Large pots and sheet pans won't fit.
How loud is it?
60 dB, roughly normal conversation. You'll hear it in a studio or open kitchen, but it won't drown out a TV.
Does it need plumbing?
No permanent plumbing. It connects to the kitchen faucet with an adapter and drains into the sink, so the sink is tied up during a cycle.
What comes in the box?
Typically the unit, a water inlet hose with faucet adapter, a drain hose and a dish rack. Check the listing for the exact accessory list.
When is it cheapest?
Countertop dishwashers usually dip during holiday sales and back-to-school promotions. Track its price history and buy below its recent average.
