Our take on the Heated Snow Melting Mats Electric Deicing Pad Weatherproof

This is a 60 by 40 inch plug-in heated mat that melts snow and ice on entryways, steps, ramps and patios. Its self-regulating polymer heating cable caps surface temperature around 104 °F, so it warms without the hot spots of constant-wattage mats. It is UL certified and rated for wood decks, asphalt, concrete and stone. No current price was provided, so check the live comparison for where it sits against its recent range.

Questions and answers

Will it damage a wood or composite deck?
The 104 °F cap is below the point where most decking scorches, and the mat is listed for wood decks. Keep the surface clear of standing water and debris so heat spreads evenly.
How much area does one mat cover?
One mat covers 60 by 40 inches, about 16.7 square feet. Most walkways and steps need two or more mats, and each needs its own outlet or a splitter rated for outdoor use.
Does it need a thermostat or controller?
The self-regulating cable adjusts its own output as temperature changes, so no separate thermostat is required. It has no on/off timer in the listed specs, so unplug it when the snow is gone.
Can I leave it outside all winter?
It is weatherproof and built for exterior use, so it can stay in place through the season. The plug connection still needs to stay out of pooled water.
Is it UL certified?
Yes, it carries UL certification. That matters for an outdoor heating product plugged into a house circuit.
When is it cheapest?
Heated mats usually drop in price in late fall before the first snow and again in late winter as stock clears. Compare the current price against its recent range before buying.
