Our take on the HERCULES 20V Brushless Cordless, 1/4 in. Compact, 3-Speed Impact Driver

The HERCULES 20V Brushless 1/4 in. Impact Driver is a cordless three-speed driver rated at 184 ft-lb of torque and up to 3,600 RPM. It uses brushless motor technology for longer runtime and a compact body for tight spaces. At 7.5 lb it is heavier than many compact drivers, so it suits heavier fastening and shop work more than overhead jobs.

Questions and answers

Is 184 ft-lb enough for deck screws and lag bolts?
Yes for most deck screws and smaller lag bolts, especially in pre-drilled holes. Very large lag bolts or rusted fasteners may need a 1/2 in. impact wrench.
Does it come with a battery and charger?
This listing is for the bare tool. HERCULES 20V batteries and chargers are sold separately, so budget for them unless you already own the platform.
How does it compare with a 12V compact driver?
It has far more torque and speed than most 12V drivers, but it is much heavier. Choose 12V for overhead cabinet work and this for heavy fastening.
What bits fit the 1/4 in. drive?
Standard 1/4 in. hex-shank impact bits and bit holders fit. Use impact-rated bits, since ordinary bits can shatter under the torque.
Why does it weigh 7.5 lb?
That figure likely includes the battery. The brushless motor and metal gearing add weight, which is the trade-off for the high torque rating.
When is the best time to buy?
Watch for store sales and bundle deals on HERCULES 20V tools. Prices on the bare tool move less than battery kit promotions.
Where can I buy the HERCULES 20V Brushless Cordless, 1/4 in. Compact, 3-Speed Impact Driver?
