Our take on the House of Hampton Darcey Velvet Upholstered Twin Daybed

The Darcey is an upholstered velvet daybed with a pull-out trundle, sold in a twin size. It ships with slats and needs no box spring, so a mattress drops straight onto the frame. The trundle makes it a two-sleeper piece for a guest room or a small bedroom. It is rated 4 out of 5 from 8 ratings, a thin sample, so treat the score as a rough signal rather than a verdict.

Best forGuest rooms that need two beds in one footprintSmall bedrooms and studio apartmentsShoppers who want an upholstered, fabric-covered frameAnyone avoiding a box spring purchase
Pros
  • Trundle adds a second sleeping spot without a second bed frame
  • Slats included, so no box spring is needed
  • Velvet upholstery gives a softer look than a metal daybed
  • Twin size fits tight rooms and doubles as seating by day
Cons
  • Trundle mattresses are usually sold separately
  • Velvet shows lint, pet hair and marks more than woven fabric
  • Only 8 ratings, so the 4-out-of-5 score is not strong evidence
  • Upholstered frames are heavier to move than metal ones

Questions and answers

Does the Darcey daybed include mattresses?
No. The listing covers the frame, slats and trundle. You supply a twin mattress for the top and a second twin mattress for the trundle.
Is a box spring required?
No. Slats are included and the frame is built to support a mattress directly, so a box spring is not needed.
What size mattress fits the trundle?
The trundle takes a twin mattress, the same size as the main sleeping surface. Check the trundle's height clearance before buying a thick mattress.
Is this daybed good for a guest room?
Yes. It seats one person by day and sleeps two when the trundle is pulled out, which suits occasional guests in a small room.
How hard is it to assemble?
Expect a flat-pack build with slats to fit and a trundle to align. Two people help with lifting the upholstered pieces into place.
What do buyers say about the House of Hampton Darcey Velvet Upholstered Twin Daybed?
