Our take on the HP LaserJet P2055DN MICR Bundle Printer with 2 MICR Toner Cartridges and Extended Warranty

This bundle pairs the HP LaserJet P2055DN, a monochrome laser printer with built-in duplex printing and Ethernet networking, with two MICR toner cartridges and an extended warranty. MICR toner prints the magnetic-ink characters banks read on checks, so the bundle is aimed at small businesses and offices that print checks in-house. The P2055DN is an older, discontinued model, so this is a niche, refurbished-market buy rather than a current printer. It is a specialized purchase; compare the bundle price against buying a used P2055DN and MICR cartridges separately.

Best for
Small businesses printing their own checks
Offices needing a networked duplex laser
Buyers who want spare MICR toner on hand
Low-volume check printing on a budget
Pros
  • Two MICR toner cartridges included, so you can print checks right away
  • Built-in duplex printing saves paper on check runs
  • Ethernet networking lets several people share the printer
  • External locking mechanism on Tray 2 helps secure check stock
  • Extended warranty runs 15 months instead of the standard 12
Cons
  • P2055DN is a discontinued model, so parts and support are limited
  • MICR toner is expensive and hard to find compared with standard toner
  • No Wi-Fi; networking is wired Ethernet only
  • Bulky desktop footprint and no color printing

Questions and answers

Is this bundle worth it for printing checks?
If you print checks regularly and want spare MICR toner on hand, bundling the printer, two cartridges and an extended warranty can cost less than sourcing each piece separately. Check that the cartridges are genuine HP MICR units before buying.
Does the P2055DN print in color?
No. It is a monochrome laser printer, so it prints black only, which is what check printing requires.
Can I connect it wirelessly?
Not natively. The P2055DN has Ethernet and USB, so you would need a print server or a router-based workaround for Wi-Fi.
What is MICR toner and do I need it?
MICR toner contains magnetic particles so banks can read the account and routing numbers printed on checks. Standard toner will not pass check processing.
What is included in the box?
The bundle includes the P2055DN printer, two MICR toner cartridges and a 15-month extended warranty. Paper and check stock are not included.
When is the best time to buy?
This is a discontinued model sold mainly through refurbished and specialty check-printing sellers, so pricing moves with stock. Compare the bundle price against a used printer plus separate MICR cartridges before buying.
What do buyers say about the HP LaserJet P2055DN MICR Bundle Printer with 2 MICR Toner Cartridges and Extended Warranty?
Rated 4.5 out of 5 from 256 ratings.
