Our take on the HP OmniBook 5 16" Laptop Intel Core Ultra 7 355 16GB 1TB SSD

The HP OmniBook 5 is a 16-inch Windows laptop built around Intel's Core Ultra 7 355, an eight-core chip that peaks at 4.7 GHz, paired here with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. The 1920 x 1200 touchscreen runs at 60Hz, and the whole machine weighs about 4 lb, which is light for a 16-inch panel. It is a general-purpose machine for school, office work and light creative tasks rather than a gaming or workstation laptop. Its only recorded price is $979 at the listed store as of November 1, 2026, so there is no lower point in its recent history to compare against.

Best forStudents and office workers who want a big screen without much weightSpreadsheet, document and browser-heavy multitaskingLight photo editing and casual video useBuyers who want a touchscreen and a 1TB SSD in one machine
Pros
  • Core Ultra 7 355 with eight cores handles everyday multitasking well
  • 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD leave little need to upgrade soon
  • 16-inch 1920 x 1200 touchscreen with a taller 16:10 shape
  • About 4 lb, light for its screen size
  • EPEAT-registered, useful for buyers with sustainability requirements
  • HDMI port for external monitors or projectors
Cons
  • 60Hz refresh rate feels dated next to 120Hz panels
  • Intel integrated graphics limit gaming and heavy 3D work
  • 1920 x 1200 is modest resolution for a 16-inch screen
  • Only HDMI is listed among ports, so check for USB-C before buying
  • Base configurations with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage are much weaker than this one

Questions and answers

Is the HP OmniBook 5 worth it at $979?
At $979 as of November 1, 2026, you are paying for a 16-inch touchscreen, a current Core Ultra 7 chip, 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. That is a fair package for school or office work, but compare against 16-inch rivals with higher-resolution or faster screens before committing.
Can this laptop handle gaming?
Only lightly. It uses Intel integrated graphics, so esports titles and older games run at low settings, but modern 3D games will be slow. A laptop with a dedicated GPU is the better choice for gaming.
How is the battery life?
Battery life depends on the exact configuration and screen brightness, and no figure is listed here. A 16-inch panel at 60Hz draws power, so expect a full workday at best and carry the charger for long days.
Does it come with a touchscreen?
Yes, this configuration lists a touchscreen. The panel is 16 inches at 1920 x 1200 and refreshes at 60Hz.
What is in the box?
The laptop and its power adapter are the standard contents. A stylus, mouse or sleeve is not included, so budget for those separately if you need them.
When is it cheapest?
The only recorded daily price is $979 on November 1, 2026, so there is no lower point yet to wait for. Watch for holiday sales, when HP laptops of this class usually see their deepest discounts.
What do buyers say about the HP OmniBook 5 16" Laptop Intel Core Ultra 7 355 16GB 1TB SSD?
