Our take on the Hudson 4,750-Watt Portable Inverter Generator with CO Sensor

The Hudson is a 4,750-watt gas portable inverter generator with a built-in carbon monoxide sensor that shuts the unit down when CO builds up. Inverter output gives clean power for sensitive electronics, and at 20.1 by 17.9 by 23.2 inches it is sized for tailgates, campsites and job sites. It runs on 120V, 60Hz and carries a 1-year limited warranty. We have no current price data for it, so compare store prices before buying.

Pros
  • Inverter design delivers stable power for electronics
  • Built-in CO sensor shuts the generator down on dangerous carbon monoxide levels
  • 4,750 watts handles a fridge, lights and small tools together
  • Compact footprint for a generator of this output

Cons
  • 1-year limited warranty is shorter than many rivals' 2-3 year coverage
  • Gas only, with no propane or dual-fuel option listed

Questions and answers

Is the Hudson 4,750-watt inverter generator worth it?
It depends on price and how much you value the CO sensor. Clean inverter power plus automatic CO shutdown is a strong combination for camping and home backup. Compare it with similarly sized inverter models from Honda, Champion and Generac before deciding.
What can 4,750 watts run?
Expect to run a fridge, lights, a router, a TV and a few small tools at once. High-draw items like a window AC or space heater should be run one at a time. Check each appliance's starting watts, since motors draw more at startup.
How does the CO sensor work?
The sensor monitors carbon monoxide around the unit and cuts the engine when levels rise. That protects against running it in a garage or too close to a window. Never run any generator indoors, even with a sensor.
Does it have a 240V outlet?
No. The listed electrical requirement is 120V at 60Hz, so it will not power 240V loads like a well pump or electric dryer. It suits standard household outlets and RV-style 120V needs.
What is the warranty?
Hudson covers it with a 1-year limited warranty. That is shorter than the 2-3 year coverage many inverter generators offer, so keep the receipt and register the unit.
When is it cheapest?
Generator prices tend to dip outside storm season and during fall clearance. We have no current price for this model, so check store prices and price history before buying.
