Is this the whole screen or just the glass?

It is a full OLED screen assembly, not a glass-only overlay. You replace the display unit as one part.

Do I need special tools?

Yes. You need pentalobe and tri-point screwdrivers, suction cups, picks and a heat source. iFixit sells these as a separate tool kit.

Will True Tone and Face ID still work?

Face ID usually survives if the front sensor assembly is transferred carefully. True Tone may not return without calibration, which this kit does not include.

Does it keep the phone waterproof?

Only if you apply the included sealing adhesive cleanly. Water resistance is never guaranteed after any repair.

Is it cheaper than Apple replacing the screen?

At $71.95 at eBay as of November 5, 2026, it is well below Apple's typical out-of-warranty screen price, but you do the labor yourself.

When is the best time to buy?

Prices on repair parts move little, but check around major sales. Compare both stores listing it new before buying.
