Our take on the Insignia 2.1-Channel Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer, DTS Virtual:X

The Insignia 2.1-Channel Soundbar pairs a 31.5-inch bar with a wireless subwoofer for 120 W of total output. DTS Virtual:X adds a height effect from a two-channel setup, and Bluetooth, HDMI, optical, aux and IR inputs cover most TVs and phones. It is a budget upgrade over built-in TV speakers, not a surround system. No current price was provided, so check the latest listing before buying.

Questions and answers

Is this soundbar worth it over my TV's speakers?
For most TVs, yes. A separate bar and subwoofer give clearer dialogue and real bass that built-in speakers cannot match. It is a budget step up, not a home theater replacement.
Does the subwoofer need a cable?
No. The subwoofer is wireless and pairs with the bar, so it only needs a power outlet. You still need to place it within range of the bar.
Will DTS Virtual:X give me overhead sound?
It creates a virtual height effect from the two-channel bar. It is noticeable but not the same as ceiling or upward-firing Atmos speakers.
What can I connect to it?
HDMI, optical audio, aux and Bluetooth, plus IR for remote control. That covers most TVs, game consoles and phones.
Does it support Dolby Atmos?
No. DTS Virtual:X is the height-processing format here, and the bar is a 2.1-channel design. Atmos content will play, but without true overhead channels.
When is it cheapest?
Insignia soundbars usually drop during Black Friday and back-to-school sales. Check the price history on this page before buying.
