Our take on the K&H Pet Products Outdoor Kitty House Extra Wide Heated

The K&H Outdoor Kitty House Extra Wide Heated is a barn-style insulated shelter for outdoor and feral cats, with a heated pad inside and two door openings so cats can escape. The walls and roof are insulated, the exterior is heavy denier polyester over a plastic frame, and the cover comes off for washing. It assembles from flat parts and stands free on a porch, in a garage or barn. At $82.80 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, it is the lowest of the five stores listing it new.

Best forFeral and outdoor cats needing winter shelterPorches, garages and barnsOwners who want a heated bed without a heated mat inside the houseTwo-cat households, thanks to the wide body and two doors
Pros
  • Heated pad included, so no separate mat to buy
  • Insulated walls and roof hold warmth better than an unheated shell
  • Two door openings give cats an escape route
  • Removable, washable cover makes cleanup easy
  • Electrical safety standards go beyond UL requirements
Cons
  • Assembly required out of the box
  • Plastic frame and polyester shell are not chew-proof
  • Heated pad needs a nearby outlet, so placement is limited
  • Only rated for medium cats; large cats will be cramped
  • No floor insulation listed beyond the pad itself

Questions and answers

Is the heated pad included?
Yes. The Extra Wide Heated model ships with a heated pad sized for the house, so you do not need to buy a separate mat.
Does it need electricity?
Yes. The heated pad plugs into a standard outlet, so the house needs to sit within reach of a cord, such as on a covered porch or in a garage.
How many cats fit?
It is sized for medium cats, and the extra-wide body with two doors suits one cat comfortably or two smaller cats.
Can I use it indoors?
Yes. K&H lists colder parts of the house, garages and barns as suitable locations, not just outdoor porches.
Is it hard to assemble?
Assembly is required and takes some time, but the panels go together without special tools.
When is it cheapest?
Outdoor cat shelters tend to drop in price in late summer and early fall, before cold weather drives demand. The current best new price is $82.80 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026.
