Our take on the KingSpec M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen 4x4 NVMe Internal SSD

The KingSpec M.2 2280 1TB is a PCIe Gen 4x4 NVMe internal SSD rated for up to 4,900 MB/s sequential reads. It fits any standard M.2 2280 slot, so it works in most recent laptops and desktops as a boot drive or game storage. Only one store lists it new, at $155.99 at Newegg.com as of November 3, 2026, and that is also the only price recorded so far, so there is no cheaper point to compare against. At that price it costs more than several better-known 1TB Gen 4 drives, so the value case is thin.

Best forBudget builders adding a second driveLaptop owners replacing a short M.2 driveGame and file storage where 4,900 MB/s reads are enough
Pros
  • Gen 4x4 interface with up to 4,900 MB/s reads
  • Standard M.2 2280 size fits most laptops and desktops
  • 1TB capacity in a single-sided-style slot footprint
  • No heatsink needed for everyday use
  • Simple drop-in upgrade for a boot or storage drive
Cons
  • $155.99 is high for a 1TB Gen 4 drive from a lesser-known brand
  • Only one store carries it, so no price competition
  • No write speed, endurance (TBW) or DRAM figure published here
  • 3.7 out of 5 from just 6 ratings is a thin track record
  • KingSpec has little presence in mainstream SSD reviews

Questions and answers

Is the KingSpec 1TB Gen 4 SSD worth $155.99?
Not clearly. At $155.99 at Newegg.com as of November 3, 2026, it costs more than many established 1TB Gen 4 drives. Buy it only if you specifically want this model or it is the only one in stock.
Will it fit my laptop or desktop?
It uses the M.2 2280 form factor, the most common size. Check that your slot supports PCIe Gen 4x4 NVMe; it also works at Gen 3 speeds in older slots.
How fast is it in real use?
KingSpec rates sequential reads at up to 4,900 MB/s. Write speed and sustained performance after the cache fills are not published, so expect large file copies to slow more than the read figure suggests.
Does it come with a heatsink?
No heatsink is listed. A bare drive is fine for laptops and general desktop use; a Gen 4 drive running heavy sustained writes benefits from a motherboard heatsink.
Is it cheaper at other stores?
Only Newegg.com lists it new at $155.99 as of November 3, 2026, and that is the only price recorded since November 2, 2026. There is no lower price to wait for right now.
Where is the KingSpec M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen 4x4 NVMe Internal SSD cheapest?
At Newegg.com, for $155.99, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the KingSpec M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen 4x4 NVMe Internal SSD?
