Is the Kingston NV2 1TB worth it?

It is a reasonable budget drive for booting, games and general storage. At $118.77 at Amazon as of November 3, 2026, it is priced at the top of its recent range, so waiting for a lower price makes sense if you are not in a hurry.

Does the NV2 work in a PS5?

Yes, it meets the PS5's M.2 2280 size and PCIe 4.0 requirements, but Sony recommends a heatsink. The NV2 ships without one, so add a slim heatsink before installing.

Is it faster than a SATA SSD?

Yes. At 3,500MB/s reads it is roughly six times faster than a typical SATA SSD, which shows up in boot times and game loads.

Why does write speed drop on big transfers?

The NV2 has no DRAM cache, so it slows down once its SLC cache fills during large sustained writes. Normal use rarely hits this.

Just the drive. No screws, no heatsink and no cloning software are included.

When is the NV2 cheapest?

Budget SSDs like this tend to dip during Black Friday and back-to-school sales. Its current price is near the high end of its recent range.

Our take on the Kingston NV2 1TB M.2 2280 NVMe Internal SSD

The Kingston NV2 is a budget PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 NVMe drive rated for 3,500MB/s reads and 2,100MB/s writes. It is a DRAM-less design built for everyday storage rather than sustained heavy writes, with 320TB endurance and a 7g, 2.2mm-thick single-sided form factor. At $118.77 at Amazon as of November 3, 2026, it sits at the top of its recent range, so it is not a standout bargain right now.
