Our take on the KitchenAid 9 Cup Food Processor

The KitchenAid 9 Cup Food Processor is a full-size countertop processor with a 9-cup work bowl and a three-speed control plus a variable-speed dial for fine-tuning. It handles chopping, slicing, shredding and dough mixing with the included discs and blade. The 9-cup bowl sits between compact 3- to 7-cup models and 11- to 14-cup machines, so it suits most family cooking without taking over the counter.

Questions and answers

Is the 9-cup size big enough for a family?
Yes for most households of three to five. It handles soups, salsa, slaw and dough for a single loaf, but very large batches need a 11- to 14-cup machine.
What comes in the box?
The base, 9-cup work bowl with lid and feed tube, a multi-purpose blade, and slicing and shredding discs. Check the listing for the exact disc set.
Can it knead bread dough?
It can mix and knead dough in small batches, but the motor and bowl are sized for occasional dough, not daily heavy bread baking.
How does it compare with a 7-cup processor?
The 9-cup bowl gives more room for family batches and fewer refills, at the cost of a taller, heavier machine. For one or two people, a 7-cup model is easier to store.
Is it hard to clean?
The bowl and lid are easy to rinse, but the blades and discs have crevices that trap food. Most owners hand wash the discs rather than risk the dishwasher.
When is it cheapest?
KitchenAid processors usually drop during Black Friday, holiday sales and spring kitchen events. Watch the price history for a dip below the typical range.
