Our take on the Ktaxon 39 inch Lightning Style Electric Guitar Starter Kit with 20W Amp

This is a beginner bundle built around a V-shaped solid basswood body with a lightning graphic, a 25.5-inch scale maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 24 frets and a tremolo bridge. It ships with a 20W amp and starter accessories, so a new player gets a playable rig in one box. At $87.99 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, which is typical for this class of kit.

Pros
  • Complete starter kit with amp included
  • 24 frets and a tremolo bridge at a very low price
  • Lightning graphic stands out from plain beginner guitars
  • 25.5-inch scale matches common Strat-style feel
  • Right-handed V body with maple neck and rosewood board
Cons
  • Basswood body and budget hardware limit tone and tuning stability
  • V shape is awkward to play seated
  • 20W amp is basic, with limited clean headroom
  • Setup and fretwork on cheap kits often need attention out of the box

Questions and answers

Is this kit worth it for a total beginner?
Yes, if the goal is to start cheaply. You get a guitar, a 20W amp and accessories for under $90, so the risk is low. Expect to spend a little on a setup.
How does it compare with a Squier or Yamaha starter guitar?
Those cost two to four times more and generally have better fretwork, hardware and resale value. This Ktaxon kit wins on price and the V-style look, not on build quality.
Does the 20W amp have enough volume for practice?
Yes for bedroom and small-room practice. It is a basic solid-state amp, so cleans get harsh at high volume and it has no effects beyond what the kit includes.
What comes in the box?
The listing bundles the guitar with a 20W amp and starter accessories. Check the listing for the exact accessory list before buying, since bundles vary.
Is a V-shaped guitar hard to play?
Standing with a strap it plays fine. Sitting down, the V body has no thigh cut, so it slips and is best played standing or with the body between your legs.
When is the best time to buy it?
At $87.99 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, it is already near the bottom of its range. Holiday sales and back-to-school periods are the usual times for further discounts.
Where is the Ktaxon 39 inch Lightning Style Electric Guitar Starter Kit with 20W Amp cheapest?
At Walmart, for $89.99, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Ktaxon 39 inch Lightning Style Electric Guitar Starter Kit with 20W Amp?
2 stores we checked sell it, including Walmart, eBay.
