"Life is beautiful" is a bold name for a fragrance to live up to, and Lancôme's La Vie Est Belle Perfume mostly manages it. Black currant and pear give the Eau de Parfum a tart, juicy opening before iris takes the lead at the heart, joined by jasmine and orange blossom for something soft rather than sharp. What sets it apart is the trail: praline and vanilla folded into patchouli and tonka bean, an almost dessert-like warmth under the flowers. Lancôme classifies this La Vie Est Belle Eau de Parfum as a floral gourmand, and that hybrid is exactly why it works for both an afternoon at the office and a dinner that runs late. The iris-praline pairing through the middle hours is where most wearers say the fragrance earns its reputation, since it avoids the overly candied register that a lot of gourmand florals fall into after the first thirty minutes. It's optimistic without being naive, sweet without losing structure, the kind of fragrance that makes its own argument for the name on the bottle. Gifted often around graduations and new beginnings, it has become something of a modern rite-of-passage scent for exactly that reason, sentimental without ever feeling saccharine.
