Is Diagon Alley 75978 worth it?

For adult Harry Potter collectors who want a large display set, yes. It is expensive and takes a long time to build, so it suits people who will keep it on display rather than casual builders.

How does it compare to the 2020 Diagon Alley set?

75978 is that set. There is no newer full Diagon Alley model, so the main alternative is the smaller, cheaper Hogwarts Express or individual shop sets.

How big is it when built?

Lined up, the four buildings run roughly 40 inches wide. Plan for a wide, deep shelf or table, or display the buildings separately.

5,544 pieces, 17 minifigures and building instructions. The buildings are packed in separate numbered bags, so you can build each shop on its own.

LEGO rates it for ages 16 and up. The piece count and build time make it a poor fit for young children.

Large LEGO sets usually drop during Black Friday, LEGO's own sales and end-of-year clearance. Check the price history before buying.

Our take on the LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley 75978

Diagon Alley 75978 is LEGO's 5,544-piece model of the wizarding shopping street from Harry Potter. It builds four separate buildings — Ollivanders, Flourish & Blotts, Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes and the Daily Prophet office — that can be displayed in a row or split apart. It is aimed at adult builders (16+) and is one of the largest Harry Potter sets LEGO has made. It is a display set first: the interiors are detailed but shallow, and it is not built for play.
