Questions and answers

Is the ThinkPad P16v Gen 2 worth it for CAD work?
Yes, if you need workstation-class graphics. The RTX 2000/3000 Ada cards with 8 GB VRAM and up to 96 GB RAM are built for CAD and 3D applications. At $1,995 at eBay as of November 7, 2026, it undercuts most new workstation laptops with this hardware.
How does it compare with the P16v Gen 1?
Gen 2 moves to Intel Core Ultra processors and RTX Ada graphics, which bring better efficiency and newer GPU architecture. The chassis, 16-inch screen options and ThinkPad keyboard carry over largely unchanged.
Can I upgrade the RAM and storage?
The P16v has two SO-DIMM slots and supports up to 96 GB, so you can add memory after purchase. Storage is M.2 SSD; check the specific configuration for how many slots are free.
What is the battery life like?
Expect modest battery life. The discrete RTX GPU and high-resolution panel draw power, so heavy CAD or rendering sessions will drain it in a few hours. Light office work lasts longer.
What comes in the box?
The laptop, a power adapter and standard documentation. It ships with Windows 11 Pro; a stylus and docking station are not included.
When is it cheapest?
Workstation prices move with configuration and promotions. The lowest new price seen is $1,995 at eBay as of November 7, 2026; watch for sales around back-to-school and end-of-year.
Where is the Lenovo ThinkPad P16v Gen 2 16" Mobile Workstation cheapest?
