Our take on the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 Laptop

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 is a 14-inch business ultrabook with an 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1185G7, 16GB of soldered memory, a 256GB SSD and a 1920x1200 anti-glare touchscreen. It is known for its light carbon-fiber chassis, excellent keyboard and full port selection including HDMI. The 256GB drive is small for the price class, and the memory cannot be upgraded later.

Questions and answers

Is the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 worth it?
It is a strong pick for business use if you value the keyboard, weight and ports. At the listed price, the 256GB SSD and non-upgradable 16GB RAM are the main reasons to compare against newer models.
Can I upgrade the RAM or storage?
The 16GB LPDDR4x memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded. The 256GB PCIe SSD can be replaced with a larger M.2 drive.
How is the battery life?
Real-world battery life is typically around 8 to 10 hours of mixed office work. Heavy video or brightness-heavy use cuts that noticeably.
Does it have USB-A and HDMI?
Yes. It includes HDMI plus USB-A and Thunderbolt 4 ports, so most accessories connect without a dongle.
Is the screen good for outdoor use?
The 1920x1200 IPS panel is anti-glare and matte, which helps in bright rooms. It is not a high-brightness display, so direct sunlight is still difficult.
What is in the box?
The laptop and an AC power adapter. No stylus or sleeve is included.
