Our take on the LG evo G4 Smart OLED TV

The LG evo G4 is LG's flagship 4K OLED TV, built on the brighter MLA (Micro Lens Array) evo panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and full HDMI 2.1 support. It is a gallery-style set designed to hang flush on the wall, and it ships with LG's Zero Gap wall mount rather than a stand. The G4 is aimed at buyers who want the deepest blacks and best contrast OLED offers, plus the brightness to handle a bright room. It comes in 77, 83 and 97 inches, with the 97-inch model using a different panel without MLA.

Questions and answers

Is the G4 worth it over the G3?
Yes if brightness matters to you. The G4's MLA panel is brighter and handles highlights better, and it adds the newer processor and gaming refinements. The G3 remains a strong value if you watch mostly in a dark room.
Does the LG G4 come with a stand?
No. It ships with LG's Zero Gap wall mount for flush wall installation. A stand is sold separately if you cannot wall-mount it.
What is the refresh rate and does it support 4K 120Hz?
It is a 120Hz panel with four HDMI 2.1 ports, so it runs 4K at 120Hz with VRR and ALLM on consoles and PCs. It also supports 144Hz at lower resolutions on some inputs.
Is burn-in a real risk on this TV?
OLED can develop permanent burn-in from static elements like news tickers or game HUDs over long periods. Varying content and using the built-in screen care features lowers the risk, but it is not zero.
Which sizes are available?
It comes in 77, 83 and 97 inches. The 97-inch model uses a different panel without MLA, so its brightness is lower than the 77 and 83.
When is it cheapest?
Flagship OLEDs typically drop around Black Friday, Super Bowl season and when the next model year launches. Watch the price history for the 77-inch, which sees the deepest discounts.
What do buyers say about the LG evo G4 Smart OLED TV?
Rated 4.8 out of 5 from 4,000 ratings.
