M5Stack StackChan Open-Source AI Desktop Robot

StackChan is an adorable open-source AI desktop robot co-developed by M5Stack and its global user community. At its core is the M5Stack flagship IoT development kit CoreS3 , powered by an ESP32-S3 SoC with a 240 MHz dual-core processor , 16MB Flash , and 8MB PSRAM , supporting both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE . The main unit features a 2.0-inch capacitive touch display with a durable glass cover, a 0.3 MP camera , proximity sensor , 9-axis IMU (accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer), microSD card slot , 1W speaker , dual microphones , and power/reset buttons .

The robot body connects to the main unit and includes a USB-C port for power and data, a 700 mAh battery , and two feedback servos —one for 360° horizontal rotation , the other for 90° vertical movement . It also integrates 12 RGB LEDs , an infrared transmitter and receiver , a three-zone touch panel , and a full-featured NFC module .

The pre-installed firmware offers a rich set of features, including expressive animations , the XiaoZhi AI assistant , and support for iOS video calls , remote avatars , and device discovery among nearby StackChan units. It’s fully programmable via Arduino and UiFlow2 , making it easy to customize behaviors and expand functionality.
