Our take on the Macy's Radley 54" Fabric Chair Bed

The Radley 54" Fabric Chair Bed is a square armchair that folds flat into a sleeper, sold by Macy's. It has a pine and engineered hardwood frame, 1.8 HR foam cushions with a polyester wrap, and removable legs. At 54 inches wide and deep it takes real floor space, so measure before you commit. It suits a guest room, studio or den where a full sofa will not fit.

Best forGuest rooms and studios that need an occasional bedSmall living rooms short on sofa spaceShoppers who want an upholstered chair, not a metal futon frameAdults who sleep over only a few nights a month
Pros
  • Folds from chair to flat sleeper without a separate mattress
  • 1.8 HR foam holds shape better than low-density fill
  • Pine and engineered hardwood frame is sturdier than all-particleboard builds
  • Removable legs make it easier to move through doorways
  • Textured fabric hides everyday wear
Cons
  • 54" x 54" footprint is large for a chair
  • Assembly required
  • Foam sleeper is firmer and thinner than a real mattress
  • No storage for bedding
  • Fabric, not leather, so stains need prompt cleaning

Questions and answers

Is it comfortable enough to sleep on every night?
No. The 1.8 HR foam with a polyester wrap is fine for occasional guests, but it is firmer and thinner than a mattress. For nightly sleeping, buy a real bed.
How big is it when folded out?
It measures 54 inches wide, 54 inches long and 39 inches deep, with an 18-inch seat height. Check that the full 54-inch depth fits your room before unfolding.
Does it come assembled?
No, assembly is required. The legs are removable, which helps when moving it through doors and hallways.
What is the frame made of?
A pine frame with engineered hardwood, upholstered in textured fabric. That is a sturdier combination than an all-particleboard frame.
Is it good for a small apartment?
Yes, if you have the floor space. It replaces both a chair and a guest bed, but the 54-inch square footprint is bigger than a typical armchair.
When is the best time to buy it?
Macy's furniture goes on sale around major holiday weekends and clearance events. Compare the current price against its recent range before buying.
What do buyers say about the Macy's Radley 54" Fabric Chair Bed?
Rated 4.3 out of 5 from 124 ratings.
