Our take on the Mahindra 1120 4WD HST Tractor with Loader and 54" Mower

The Mahindra 1120 is a compact 4WD tractor with a hydrostatic transmission, sold here as a bundle with a front-end loader and a 54-inch rotary mower deck. It is built for acreage owners who want one machine for mowing, moving dirt, gravel and manure, and light grading. The hydrostatic drive and four-wheel drive make it easier to handle on slopes and soft ground than a gear tractor. It is a heavier, slower mower than a dedicated lawn tractor, so the bundle makes most sense if the loader work matters as much as the cut.

Best forAcreage and small-farm owners with rough or sloped groundBuyers who need a loader and a mower in one machineMowing paddocks, ditches and fence lines, not just a lawnOwners who prefer foot-pedal hydrostatic control over a gear shift
Pros
  • Four-wheel drive improves traction on wet grass, mud and grades
  • Hydrostatic transmission gives smooth, infinite speed control and easy direction changes
  • Loader and 54-inch mower come in one package, so one machine covers two jobs
  • Compact frame fits through gates and between rows
  • Diesel torque suits loader work and sustained mowing
Cons
  • Heavy for a lawn: turf damage is likely on soft, manicured grass
  • Slower mowing speed and wider turning than a garden tractor
  • Loader and mower together add cost and take up storage space
  • Deck and loader removal or swapping takes time and space
  • Dealer network and parts availability are thinner than for major lawn brands

Questions and answers

Is the Mahindra 1120 worth it over a lawn tractor?
If you need to move dirt, gravel or manure and mow rough ground, yes. For a flat, fine lawn only, a lighter lawn or garden tractor cuts faster and costs less.
Can the loader and mower be used at the same time?
Yes, both can stay mounted, but the loader adds weight and length. Many owners remove the loader for mowing season to protect turf and improve visibility.
How does the hydrostatic transmission compare to a gear tractor?
The HST gives infinite speed control and quick forward-reverse changes, which suits loader work and tight mowing. It uses more power at the wheels than a gear drive and needs fluid and filter service.
What comes in the bundle?
The tractor, front-end loader and 54-inch rotary mower deck. Check with the seller on loader bucket size, rear ballast and any tire options, since those vary by package.
When is the best time to buy?
Compact tractor and bundle pricing tends to soften in late fall and winter, when mowing demand drops. Compare the bundle price against buying the tractor, loader and deck separately.
