Our take on the Mapex Comet 5-Piece Complete Drum Set

The Mapex Comet is a five-piece complete kit aimed at beginners and younger players, bundling bass drum, snare, mounted and floor toms, hi-hat and cymbals. It is sold as a ready-to-play package rather than a shell pack, so a new drummer needs little beyond a throne and sticks. At $569 at Walmart as of November 7, 2026, it sits at the top of its recent range, so waiting for a drop is reasonable if you are not in a hurry.

Questions and answers

Is the Mapex Comet good for a beginner?
Yes. It is a complete five-piece kit with cymbals and hardware, so a new player can start without buying extras. Expect to upgrade cymbals and heads later.
What is included in the box?
Bass drum, snare, mounted tom, floor tom, hi-hat and cymbals, plus the hardware to mount them. A throne and sticks are usually bought separately.
Is it small enough for a kid or teen?
The kit is listed as suitable for kids, and its compact sizes suit smaller players. Check the bass drum and tom depths against your room before buying.
Is $569 a good price?
It is the best new price found as of November 7, 2026, but it sits at the top of the kit's recent range. If you can wait, a drop toward the lower end is worth watching for.
Can I upgrade the cymbals and heads?
Yes. Standard-size drums and hardware accept common replacement heads and cymbals, which is the usual first upgrade path for this kit.
