Is it worth it over a name-brand framing nailer?

If you frame occasionally and already own a compressor, it covers the job at a lower price. For daily production framing, a Hitachi/Metabo, DeWalt or Paslode gun has better parts support and durability.

What nails does it take?

It uses 21-degree plastic-collated full-head framing nails, typically 2 to 3-1/4 inches. Stick with plastic collation; paper or wire collation will not feed right.

What compressor do I need?

Plan on a compressor that delivers roughly 3 to 4 CFM at 90 psi or more. A small pancake compressor will run it slowly and may not keep up on long framing runs.

Does the brad nailer mode replace a finish nailer?

No. It can drive light brads for assembly, but a dedicated 18-gauge brad nailer gives cleaner holes and better control on trim.

Expect the nailer, a safety glasses pair and an owner's manual; fittings and nails are usually sold separately. Check the listing before ordering if you need a coupler.

Framing nailers tend to drop during spring building-season sales and Black Friday. Watch the price history and buy when it sits near its low.

Our take on the Mecale 21 Degree Pneumatic Framing Nailer

The Mecale 21 Degree Pneumatic Framing Nailer is an air-powered framing gun for full-head 21-degree plastic-collated nails, the format used for framing, sheathing and decking. It has tool-free depth adjustment and a brad nailer mode, which is unusual for a framing tool. Mecale is a low-cost brand, so expect a basic kit rather than pro-grade fit and finish. No current price was available to compare against its recent range.
