Does the Metapen Pencil A8 work with my iPad?

It works with iPads running iPadOS 13.4 or later. Check that your model is on Metapen's compatibility list before buying, since older iPads are excluded.

Does it have pressure sensitivity or tilt?

No. It draws a constant line width and does not support tilt shading, so it suits notes and annotation more than serious drawing.

How long does the battery last and how is it charged?

Metapen claims up to 10 hours of use and a 30-minute charge. It charges over USB-C, not magnetically like the Apple Pencil.

Is it worth it over an Apple Pencil?

For note-taking and everyday writing at $14.99, yes. For drawing that needs pressure and tilt, the Apple Pencil is the better tool.

Expect the pencil, a USB-C charging cable and a spare tip. Confirm the bundle with the listing before ordering.

At $14.99 at Amazon as of November 8, 2026, it is already near the bottom of its range. Watch for bundle discounts around back-to-school season.

Our take on the Metapen Pencil A8

The Metapen Pencil A8 is a budget active stylus for iPad, an Apple Pencil alternative with a 0.1 mm tip, aluminum alloy body and a claimed 10 hours of battery life from a 30-minute charge. It works with iPads running iPadOS 13.4 or later and weighs 15 grams. At $14.99 at Amazon as of November 8, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent price range, so there is little reason to wait for a deeper cut.
