Does peppermint spray actually keep mice away?

It can deter rodents briefly because they dislike the smell, but there is little rigorous evidence. Expect to reapply often, and use traps if you already see droppings or nesting.

Is it safe around pets and children?

It is a 25(b) minimum-risk product, but peppermint oil can irritate pets, especially cats, and should not be sprayed on animals or food surfaces. Keep pets out of treated areas until dry.

How often should I reapply it?

Most users reapply every few days to a week, or after rain outdoors, since the scent fades. Treat entry points, baseboards and storage areas.

Will it get rid of an infestation?

No. It is a repellent, not a rodenticide. For an active infestation, combine exclusion work like sealing gaps with traps or a professional.

Where can I spray it?

Indoors along baseboards, in garages and basements, and outdoors around sheds and entry points. Avoid spraying directly on plants, fabrics or surfaces that stain.

Our take on the Mighty Mint Peppermint Oil Rodent Repellent Spray

Mighty Mint Peppermint Oil Rodent Repellent Spray is an 8 fl oz ready-to-use spray meant to push rats and mice away from indoor and outdoor spots using peppermint oil. It is labeled under the EPA's 25(b) minimum-risk exemption, so it is not registered or tested by the EPA for efficacy. Peppermint sprays are a deterrent at best: rodents often return once the scent fades, and heavy infestations need traps or an exterminator.
