Our take on the Milwaukee M12 FPP2D2-422X

The Milwaukee M12 FPP2D2-422X is a two-tool cordless kit built on the M12 Fuel 12V platform. It bundles a brushless Fuel drill/driver and impact driver with two 4.0Ah lithium-ion batteries, a charger and a contractor bag. The compact 12V format suits tight spaces and overhead work better than 18V gear, at the cost of raw torque. It is a kit aimed at tradespeople and serious DIYers already in or entering the M12 line.

What reviewers say

Owners of the M12 Fuel drill and impact generally rate them highly for power-to-size ratio and build quality. The common knock is that 12V limits heavy-duty work and that the kit price is high next to basic combo sets.

Pros
  • Strong torque for such compact tools
  • Solid, durable build
  • Light enough for all-day overhead use
  • Batteries hold charge well
Cons
  • Not a substitute for 18V on big jobs

Questions and answers

Is this kit worth it over a cheaper 12V combo?
The Fuel brushless motors and two 4.0Ah batteries justify the premium if you use the tools regularly. For occasional light jobs, a basic brushed kit costs less and does the same work.
How does it compare with Milwaukee's 18V kits?
The M12 kit is smaller and lighter, which helps in tight spaces and overhead. An 18V kit gives noticeably more torque for drilling large holes and driving long fasteners.
What is included in the box?
You get the M12 Fuel drill/driver and impact driver, two 4.0Ah M12 batteries, an M12 charger and a contractor bag.
How long do the 4.0Ah batteries last?
Runtime depends on the task, but 4.0Ah packs give roughly double the run time of 2.0Ah packs. Most users get through a day of light to medium work on two batteries.
Can I use my existing M12 batteries with these tools?
Yes. The tools run on any M12 lithium-ion battery, so older or smaller packs work, though 4.0Ah packs give the longest runtime.
When is the best time to buy?
Combo kits tend to drop around major holiday sales and during Milwaukee promotional events. Watch the price history rather than buying at list.
