Our take on the Milwaukee M12 FUEL 12-Volt Cordless Hammer Drill/Impact Driver Combo Kit with 15-Piece Drill Bit Set

This is Milwaukee's M12 FUEL two-tool combo: a brushless 12-volt hammer drill/driver and a brushless 12-volt impact driver, sold with two batteries, a charger and a 15-piece drill bit set. The FUEL line is Milwaukee's top M12 tier, so both tools use brushless motors and the compact 12-volt battery platform that made the M12 range popular with trades and DIYers who work overhead or in tight spots. The hammer function is the unusual part at this size: it lets the drill bore small holes in brick and block, though it is not a substitute for a full-size SDS rotary hammer. The latest best price is $159 at Distritech as of November 3, which sits at the low end of what this kit has recently sold for.

Best forElectricians and installers working in tight spacesHomeowners who want one compact kit for drilling and drivingOverhead and ladder work where weight mattersBuyers already invested in Milwaukee's M12 batteries
Pros
  • Brushless FUEL motors on both tools for more runtime per charge
  • Compact, light bodies that fit between studs and above ceilings
  • Two batteries and a charger included, so the kit runs out of the box
  • Hammer mode handles light masonry, which most 12-volt drills cannot
  • 15-piece bit set covers common drilling and driving jobs
  • Shares the M12 battery platform with a large range of other tools
Cons
  • 12 volts limits torque and hole size in hardwood and large bits
  • Hammer mode is for light masonry only, not concrete demolition work
  • Small batteries drain fast under continuous heavy use
  • Kit batteries are typically compact, not high-capacity
  • Impact driver and hammer drill overlap in function for casual users

What reviewers say

Ratings are mixed at 3.9 out of 5 from 18 ratings. Owners of Milwaukee's M12 FUEL tools generally rate the tools' power and size highly; the middling score here suggests some buyers were disappointed by battery size, kit contents or the limits of 12-volt hammer drilling.

Pros
  • Compact size and light weight for overhead work
  • Strong brushless power for a 12-volt tool
  • Good ergonomics and trigger control
Cons
  • Battery runtime under heavy load
  • Hammer mode weaker than expected on hard masonry
  • Kit value questioned versus buying tools separately

Questions and answers

Is this kit worth it over the cheaper brushed M12 combo?
Yes if you use the tools regularly. The FUEL brushless motors deliver more power and runtime per charge and last longer, which matters for daily use. For occasional around-the-house jobs, the brushed kit is cheaper and adequate.
Can the hammer drill handle concrete?
It handles light masonry such as brick, block and mortar with small bits. It is not meant for poured concrete or repeated anchor holes; for that you need an SDS rotary hammer.
How long do the batteries last?
Expect roughly a few dozen small holes or a few hundred screws per charge with the included compact batteries, depending on material and bit size. Heavy continuous drilling will drain them quickly, so a spare high-capacity M12 battery is a sensible add-on.
Does it work with other Milwaukee M12 batteries?
Yes. Both tools and the charger use the M12 platform, so any genuine Milwaukee M12 battery fits, including the larger XC and High Output packs.
What is in the box?
The hammer drill/driver, the impact driver, two 12-volt batteries, a charger and a 15-piece drill bit set. Check the listing for the exact battery capacity and whether a contractor bag is included.
When is the best time to buy?
Milwaukee combo kits see the deepest discounts around Black Friday, Father's Day and end-of-season tool events. The $159 at Distritech as of November 3 is already near the low end of its recent range.
What do buyers say about the Milwaukee M12 FUEL 12-Volt Cordless Hammer Drill/Impact Driver Combo Kit with 15-Piece Drill Bit Set?
Rated 3.9 out of 5 from 18 ratings.
