Our take on the Milwaukee M12 FUEL Hammer Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit with 5Ah Battery Pack

The Milwaukee M12 FUEL combo kit pairs a brushless 12V hammer drill and impact driver with one 5.0Ah battery and a soft case. Both tools use Milwaukee's FUEL brushless motors, which give more runtime and torque than the older brushed M12 tools. The kit is aimed at tradespeople and serious DIYers who want a compact setup for light masonry, wood and metal. The 5Ah pack is a step up from the 2Ah packs usually bundled with M12 kits, so expect longer runtimes per charge.

Best forElectricians and installers working overhead or in tight spaces
Homeowners who want one compact kit for drilling and driving
Light masonry work such as anchors and small holes in brick
Tradespeople already invested in the M12 battery platform
Pros
  • Brushless FUEL motors on both tools for more torque and runtime
  • Compact 12V bodies fit into tight spots
  • 5.0Ah battery gives noticeably longer runtime than the usual 2Ah kit packs
  • Hammer mode handles light masonry without a full-size drill
  • Soft case keeps both tools and charger together
Cons
  • 12V platform limits heavy drilling and large-hole masonry work
  • Only one battery in the kit, so you need a spare for all-day use
  • Hammer function is for light masonry only, not concrete slabs
  • Charger and second battery add cost if you expand the kit

Questions and answers

Is this kit worth it over the brushed M12 combo?
Yes for regular use. The FUEL brushless motors deliver more torque and runtime, and the 5Ah battery is a meaningful upgrade over the 2Ah packs in brushed kits. For occasional light jobs, the cheaper brushed kit is enough.
Can the hammer drill handle concrete?
It handles light masonry such as brick, block and small anchors. It is not a replacement for an 18V SDS or full-size hammer drill on poured concrete or large holes.
How long does the 5Ah battery last?
Runtime depends on the task, but the 5Ah pack roughly doubles the capacity of the 2Ah packs common in M12 kits. Expect several hours of mixed drilling and driving, less under continuous hammer use.
Are the batteries compatible with other M12 tools?
Yes. The 5Ah pack works with any tool on the M12 platform, and other M12 batteries fit these tools. The kit includes one battery, so a spare is worth adding.
What is in the box?
The kit includes the M12 FUEL hammer drill, the M12 FUEL impact driver, one 5.0Ah battery, a charger and a soft case. Bits and drill bits are not included.
When is the best time to buy?
Milwaukee kits typically drop during holiday sales and store-wide tool events. Watch the price history here and buy when the kit falls below its recent average.
