Our take on the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 1/2" Mid-Torque Impact Wrench with Friction Ring (2962-20)

The 2962-20 is Milwaukee's mid-torque 1/2-inch impact wrench in the M18 FUEL line, with a brushless motor and 650 ft-lbs of nut-busting torque. It has a friction ring for quick socket changes and a 4-mode DRIVE CONTROL that sets RPM and impacts per minute for different fasteners. It weighs 5.1 lbs and is 6 inches long, so it fits where a high-torque gun will not. At $210 at Value Tools Co as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range; 4 stores list it new.

Questions and answers

Is the 2962-20 worth it over the high-torque M18?
For most car and light-truck work, yes. It is smaller and lighter, and 650 ft-lbs covers typical lug nuts. Step up to the high-torque model only for heavy equipment or badly rusted fasteners.
Does it come with a battery?
No. The 2962-20 is tool only, so you need an M18 battery and charger. A 5.0Ah pack or larger gets the most out of it.
What is the difference between the friction ring and pin detent versions?
The friction ring holds sockets by friction for quick changes. The pin detent locks sockets more securely, which suits overhead or high-vibration work.
Will it remove lug nuts on a pickup truck?
Yes, on most half-ton and similar trucks, especially with a charged 5.0Ah battery. Very tight or rusted nuts may still need a breaker bar or a high-torque gun.
When is the best time to buy it?
Prices move with store promotions. At $210 at Value Tools Co as of November 4, 2026, it is near the low end of its recent range, so waiting has limited upside unless a holiday sale appears.
Where is the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 1/2" Mid-Torque Impact Wrench with Friction Ring (2962-20) cheapest?
At Value Tools Co, for $210.00, 25% under what the other stores charge, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 1/2" Mid-Torque Impact Wrench with Friction Ring (2962-20)?
