Does the Duex DS work with any laptop?

It needs a USB-C port that supports video output, or the Mini HDMI input. Check that your laptop's USB-C port carries DisplayPort video before buying.

Is it worth it over a standalone portable monitor?

It saves desk and bag space because it attaches to the lid, but a standalone monitor is usually brighter and has wider viewing angles for similar money.

How bright is the screen?

It peaks at 300 nits, which is fine indoors but dim in direct sunlight.

Can I use it in portrait mode?

Yes. It supports portrait mode and four display modes, so you can rotate it for reading or code.

Expect the monitor and its USB-C cable; a Mini HDMI cable may be needed separately for HDMI-only laptops.

Only one store lists it new at $195.49 as of November 5, 2026, so watch for direct-from-manufacturer sales rather than store-to-store discounts.

Our take on the Mobile Pixels Duex DS Portable Monitor

The Duex DS is a 1080p IPS slide-out second screen that clips onto a laptop lid, aimed at people who want dual displays without carrying a standalone monitor. It runs over USB-C (Mini HDMI is also on board) at 60 Hz and 300 nits, with an eye-care mode and portrait rotation.
