Is the New Balance 5740 true to size?

Most buyers take their usual New Balance size. The 5740 uses the 574 last, so if you know your 574 size, start there.

Is the 5740 good for running?

No. It is a lifestyle sneaker with a chunky sole and about 15.2 oz of weight. Use a dedicated running shoe for training.

No. The upper is mesh and suede and lets water through. The listing's waterproof tag does not match the materials.

How does the 5740 compare to the 574?

Same 574 upper, but the 5740 adds a taller, layered sole. That makes it heavier and chunkier than the standard 574.

What sizes does it come in?

Men's US sizes from 2 to 16, including half sizes. Availability varies by size.

This version comes in Vintage Indigo/Sea Salt blue and white, in men's sizes from US 2 to 16. It weighs about 15.2 oz, so it is on the heavy side for an everyday sneaker. The only new price listed is $189.54 at KICKS CREW as of November 7, 2026, with no other new-price stores to compare against.
