Our take on the Nike Free Metcon 6

The Nike Free Metcon 6 is Nike's cross-training shoe built for gym days that mix lifting with conditioning. It pairs a flexible, segmented rubber outsole with a wider, flatter heel for stability under a barbell, and an open mesh upper that vents heat during circuits. The Vegas Gold/Black/White colorway is a lifestyle-leaning take on the training silhouette. It sits in the mid-price tier of cross-trainers, well under flagship lifting shoes and in line with prior Metcon generations.

People who prefer a flexible forefoot over a stiff plate
Pros
  • Flexible forefoot bends naturally for lunges, burpees and sprints
  • Wide, flat heel adds stability for squats and deadlifts
  • Breathable mesh upper keeps feet cooler during conditioning
  • Rubber outsole grips well on gym floors and turf
  • Lace-up fit with a round toe that suits most foot shapes
Cons
  • Less rigid and supportive than a dedicated weightlifting shoe for heavy squats
  • Mesh upper offers limited lateral support for quick cutting sports
  • Not a running shoe; long runs will feel firm and flat
  • Light colorway shows dirt and scuffs quickly

Questions and answers

Is the Nike Free Metcon 6 good for lifting and HIIT?
Yes. The flat, wide heel gives stability for squats and deadlifts, and the flexible forefoot handles burpees, lunges and sprints. For maximal heavy squats, a dedicated lifting shoe is still more rigid.
How does the Free Metcon 6 compare to the Metcon 9?
The Free Metcon line is more flexible and casual-leaning, while the Metcon 9 is stiffer and built for heavier lifting and rope climbs. Choose the Free Metcon for mixed classes and everyday gym wear.
Can I run in the Nike Free Metcon 6?
Short sprints and shuttle runs are fine, but it is not a running shoe. The firm, flat platform is tiring for distances beyond a warm-up jog.
Does the Nike Free Metcon 6 fit true to size?
Most buyers take their usual Nike size. If you have wide feet or wear thick training socks, consider a half size up.
What is the Nike Free Metcon 6 made of?
A breathable mesh upper with a rubber outsole. The lace-up closure and round toe give a snug, adjustable fit.
When is the best time to buy the Nike Free Metcon 6?
Prices tend to drop when a new Metcon generation launches and during seasonal sales. Check the price history on this page to see whether the current price is near its low.
