Is the P950 worth it over the P900?

Yes if you want RAW files, 4K video or an external flash, all of which the P900 lacks. If you only shoot JPEGs at long range, a used P900 costs much less.

How far can the zoom actually reach?

The lens goes to 2000mm equivalent optically, with 4x digital zoom beyond that. At 2000mm you need good light and steady hands, though stabilization helps.

Is $846.95 a good price?

It is on the high side. The P950 has often sold in the $700s to $800s, so $846.95 at Best Buy as of November 4, 2026 is not a bargain; waiting for a sale is reasonable.

Can it shoot 4K video?

Yes, it records 4K UHD at 30p and 1080p at up to 60p. Zoom and stabilization work while recording.

Does it work with an external flash?

Yes. It has a hot shoe for Nikon-compatible flashes, and a built-in flash is also included.

What comes in the box?

The camera, a rechargeable battery, charger, strap, lens cap and USB cable. A memory card is not included.

Our take on the Nikon Coolpix P950

The Coolpix P950 is Nikon's superzoom bridge camera, built around an 83x optical zoom lens that reaches from 24mm wide-angle to a 2000mm-equivalent telephoto. It pairs a 16MP 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor with optical vibration reduction, a 3.2-inch vari-angle screen, an electronic viewfinder, 4K video and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth. It is the successor to the P900, adding RAW capture, 4K video and a hot shoe. At $846.95 at Best Buy as of November 4, 2026, it sits near the top of its recent range; the P950 has typically sold in the $700s to $800s, so this is not a low point.
