Our take on the NPP NP12-100 12V 100Ah Rechargeable Sealed Lead Acid Battery

The NPP NP12-100 is a sealed 12V 100Ah AGM lead-acid battery built for deep-cycle and backup use: wheelchairs, golf carts, trolling motors, solar and off-grid storage. It is valve-regulated and maintenance-free, rated for over 1,200 cycles, and self-discharges only 1-3% a month, so it stores well between charges. At 65 lbs and roughly 13 x 6.8 x 8.4 inches it is a direct fit for many Group 27 and Group 31 trays, with T16A terminals on top. It is a heavy, cheap-per-amp-hour workhorse rather than a light or fast-charging battery.

Best forSolar and off-grid storage banks
Wheelchair and mobility scooter replacement
Golf cart and trolling motor deep-cycle use
Sump pump and backup power systems
Pros
  • 100Ah at 12V gives about 1.2 kWh of stored energy
  • Over 1,200 cycles at moderate depth of discharge
  • Maintenance-free sealed AGM: no water topping, low fumes
  • Self-discharge of 1-3% per month suits seasonal storage
  • Standard footprint fits many Group 27/31 battery boxes
Cons
  • 65 lbs is heavy to lift and install
  • Lead-acid is much heavier and shorter-lived than lithium for the same capacity
  • Needs a proper AGM charge profile; fast or dumb chargers shorten life
  • T16A terminals may need adapters for some cable lugs
  • Cold capacity and cycle life drop below freezing

What reviewers say

With 48 ratings averaging 4.6 out of 5, owners mostly report the battery arriving charged and holding voltage well in wheelchairs, trolling motors and small solar setups. Complaints center on weight and on units that faded after a season of deep discharges.

Pros
  • Arrives charged and ready to install
  • Holds voltage under deep-cycle loads
  • Good capacity for the price
  • Fits standard Group 27/31 trays
Cons
  • Heavy to handle
  • Some units lose capacity within a year
  • Terminal size needs adapters

Questions and answers

Is the NPP NP12-100 worth it compared with lithium?
For occasional backup or a tight budget, yes: 100Ah of AGM costs far less upfront. Lithium lasts several times longer and weighs about a third as much, so daily deep cycling favors lithium.
Can I use it in series or parallel?
Yes. Two in series make 24V; parallel banks add capacity. Use identical batteries of the same age and charge them fully before connecting.
What charger does it need?
An AGM-compatible charger at about 14.4-14.7V absorption and 13.5-13.8V float. A standard 10A smart charger will recharge it in roughly 10 hours from half discharge.
How deep can I discharge it?
Plan on 50% depth of discharge for long life, about 50Ah usable. Going to 80% works but cuts the 1,200-cycle rating substantially.
What is in the box?
The battery only. Terminal bolts and nuts are usually included; cables, charger and mounting hardware are not.
When is it cheapest?
Prices on AGM batteries move with lead costs and tend to dip outside boating and storm-season peaks. Check the price history before buying.
