Our take on the Nuolux USB Microphone

The Nuolux USB Microphone is a budget wireless microphone with a 1-inch diaphragm and a half-cardioid pickup pattern. Its listed specs are unusual for a USB mic: a 5G wireless link with a maximum range of about 1 yard, battery power, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 1. No current price was provided, so its standing against its recent range cannot be stated. Treat it as a novelty or close-range voice mic rather than a studio recording tool.

Pros
  • 1-inch diaphragm is larger than most budget mics
  • Half-cardioid pattern favors the voice in front
  • Battery power avoids a cable run
  • Light at 0.3 lb
  • Mono output suits calls and single-voice recording
Cons
  • 1-yard wireless range is very short
  • 5G is not a standard wireless audio spec
  • Signal-to-noise ratio of 1 is poor for clean audio
  • No stated sample rate, bit depth or USB connection detail
  • Battery power means charging and possible dropouts

Questions and answers

Is the Nuolux USB Microphone worth buying?
Only for close-range, casual voice use. The 1-yard range and weak listed signal-to-noise ratio rule it out for serious recording or streaming.
How far can I move from the receiver?
About 1 yard, per the listed maximum range. That is roughly arm's length, so plan to stay at the desk.
Does it need batteries?
Yes, it is battery powered. Budget for charging or replacing cells, and expect the mic to stop working when they run out.
Is it good for podcasting or music?
Not really. Mono output, a half-cardioid pattern and a signal-to-noise ratio of 1 point to voice calls, not music or multi-track work.
What comes in the box?
The listing gives no box contents beyond the microphone itself. Confirm the receiver, cable and batteries with the seller before ordering.
When is it cheapest?
No price was provided, so no price history can be cited. Check the price history on this page before buying.
